Chapter 249 To touch her is to touch the Jiang family
A few days later, it was time for me to go to the hospital for a follow-up check-up.
Jiang Yichen called to tell me he might be late because of an important meeting at the company. I sent him a message telling him not to worry, I'll go to the hospital first and I can manage.
When I arrived at the hospital, I had just registered and was about to go to the waiting area when I suddenly heard a soft sobbing sound. I turned around and saw a little girl standing by the corridor, looking around with teary eyes, looking utterly helpless.
I went over, squatted down, and gently asked her, "Little girl, what's wrong? Can't you find your mother?"
The little girl nodded, sobbing, "Mommy...Mommy is gone...I can't find her..."
My heart softened, and I quickly comforted her: "Don't cry, don't cry. I'll help you find your mom, okay?"
The little girl wiped away her tears and nodded.
I wanted to take her to find a nurse for help, but the little girl held my hand and whispered, "Sister, my mom said she was going out for a bit and told me to wait for her here... but she hasn't come back for a long time..."
I frowned, a sense of unease creeping into my heart. The hospital was bustling with people; if something really happened to her mother, or if she encountered any trouble, it would be disastrous.
I hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to take her to see if we could. After all, it was too dangerous for a little girl to be alone in the hospital.
"Do you know which direction Mom went?" I asked her softly.
The girl pointed in the direction of the hospital entrance: "My mom said she went out to buy something and will be back soon..."
I nodded and took her hand: "Okay, I'll take you to find your mother, but you have to stay close to me and don't run around, okay?"
She nodded obediently and held my hand tightly. I led her towards the hospital entrance, but I felt a little uneasy. After all, I was a patient myself, and if something dangerous happened, I wasn't sure I could handle it.
As I was pondering this, the little girl unexpectedly ran out.
The sweltering heat rising from the asphalt road made one feel dizzy. Suddenly, three masked men rushed out from the side.
"Miss Gu, right?" The tattooed man at the head of the group tapped his palm with a steel pipe.
It was too late when I heard the hurried footsteps behind me.
I was walking too fast and fell to the ground, a sharp pain shooting through my knee. When I looked up, the iron bar was already whistling as it came crashing down.
In that instant, "Bang!"
The iron bar slammed into the folding chair that had suddenly swung sideways. The aluminum alloy frame twisted instantly, and I instinctively closed my eyes, but then I felt someone pull me into their arms.
"It's alright now." Jiang Yichen's voice came from above, carrying suppressed anger.
I opened my eyes and saw him tightly protecting my head.
The rioters were clearly taken aback by the sudden appearance of someone and were momentarily stunned.
Jiang Yichen seized the opportunity and kicked the man in the knee. The thug screamed and fell to his knees, the steel pipe slipping from his grasp and rolling a long way.
"President Gu!" Hurried footsteps came from afar, and four bodyguards in black rushed out of the van.
"Stay away," he said without turning his head, his eyes fixed on the remaining two thugs.
When the thugs saw the approaching people, they dropped their sticks and ran away.
"Chase me."
"Yes"
Jiang Yichen looked at me with concern and said, "Momo, are you alright? I'll take you home first."
I was still in a daze, and he slowly helped me back.
"At the hospital, you should have a full body check-up first, that way I'll feel at ease."
I obediently did as instructed, praying that the baby in my belly would be alright.
"Don't worry, I'm with you." Jiang Yichen didn't let go of my hand. Fortunately, nothing bad happened.
"Don't go out these next few days. The person Grandma sent for you a few days ago was a few days late. I didn't expect this to happen. I have to go to Jiang's to deal with some issues now. I'll come back to keep you company tonight."
I told him to go ahead and get back to my business, then I went home.
Not long after, Jiang Yichen returned to the Jiang Group.
"Go and find out what happened. Momo almost had an accident as soon as she arrived at the hospital."
Jiang Yichen tried his best to control his emotions, and the atmosphere in the office was very serious.
"This matter may be related to the unscrupulous travel agency from last time. I believe we will have some clues soon."
Lin Nan wanted to say something more, but swallowed it back.
"They won't be so lucky next time."
"From today onwards, the security level for the Jiang family is raised to red."
He then added, "Have the Ministry of Justice prepare the necessary documents. I want that travel agency's parent company to go bankrupt within a week."
"Wouldn't that be too radical?"
Lin Nan frowned, "But..."
"To touch her is to touch the Jiang family."
Lin Nan was silent for a moment, then finally nodded: "I'll take care of it right away."
Just then, the police called on my phone, "Any progress with the witness?"
I took a deep breath: "Nobody seems very willing to testify. I'm still trying to figure something out, but it might take a while."
After hanging up the phone, I was restless. The witnesses were backing down one by one, and the case was about to reach a stalemate. I glanced at the kitchen; my grandmother was discussing the dinner menu with the nanny, her voice coming through the cracks. I quietly grabbed my bag and slipped out the door when they weren't looking.
The sunlight outside was blinding, so I hurried towards the uncle and aunt's house. Just as I reached the door, I heard arguing coming from inside. I knocked, and the aunt's son opened the door.
"Who are you?" His tone was icy, and his eyes were wary.
"I've come to see the older folks, I want to talk to them about testifying." I tried to make my voice sound gentle.
Upon hearing the word "testify," his face immediately darkened. He blocked the doorway, showing no intention of letting me in: "My parents won't testify. They've already received threatening letters, and I don't want them to take the risk."
My heart tightened, and I hurriedly asked, "What threatening letter?"
He pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me. I unfolded it and saw several large characters written on it in red paint: "Mind your own business, or your whole family will suffer!"
"Did you see clearly?" His voice was filled with suppressed anger. "My parents are old and can't take any more risks. Our family can't afford to gamble!"
I clutched the paper tightly, a pang of sorrow in my heart: "I know this is dangerous, but if we don't stand up, those people will only become more rampant. I will definitely find a way to ensure your safety."
He sneered: "Guarantee? How can you guarantee it? Those people aren't even afraid of the police, what can you do?"
I gritted my teeth, my mind racing: "I can arrange for people to protect you 24 hours a day, install surveillance cameras, and even temporarily move you to a safe place..."
"That's enough!" he interrupted me, his voice weary.
After saying that, he slammed the door shut.
"Actually, Miss Gu is quite nice too. If it weren't for her..."
The auntie spoke kindly of me, but her son was also worried that something might happen.
Just as I was wondering what to do, the uncle opened the door.
"Gu girl, it's really hard to say right now!"
Seeing the open door, I knew I couldn't let this opportunity slip by.
"I can absolutely guarantee your safety!"
The older woman took the opportunity to let me in.
