Chapter 250 Let's have a proper "talk".
The aunt's son looked me over warily.
“I’m here to help you.” I looked him straight in the eye.
He frowned, his eyes filled with suspicion.
“I know what you’re worried about,” I said softly. “Regarding your mother’s safety, we can also contact the police.”
His body visibly stiffened for a moment.
“The police?” His voice was laced with sarcasm. “What can they do?”
“The police can arrange safe houses with 24-hour close protection,” I said firmly.
His eyes flickered, as if he were wavering.
"Are you sure?" His tone softened.
“I know Officer Zhang, who’s in charge of this case.” I immediately pulled out my phone. “I can call right now.”
He took a deep breath and nodded.
“Alright.” He finally relented, “If you can guarantee my mother’s safety…”
Hearing this, I finally felt relieved.
When I got home, I immediately dialed Officer Zhang's number, who was in charge of the case. Although my hands were still trembling, my voice had calmed down.
“Officer Zhang, I just met with the elderly couple and their son. The couple is willing to testify, but their son is requesting that the police protect his mother’s safety.”
Officer Zhang's calm voice came from the other end of the phone, "This is a major breakthrough. We'll immediately arrange a safe house with 24-hour close protection. You've done a great job, Ms. Gu."
I felt my tense nerves finally relax a bit, and quickly replied to Officer Zhang, "Great! I'll call the lady right away."
I hung up and immediately dialed the aunt's number. The phone was answered after two rings, and her hoarse voice came through, "Little Gu..."
"Auntie, the police have agreed to arrange a safe house for you, and there will be police officers protecting you 24 hours a day. Those bad guys will be brought to justice soon."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by suppressed sobs: "This is for the best, this is for the best."
“Auntie, it’s what I should do.” I said softly, “Please pack your necessities, I’ll come get you right away. Remember, don’t open the door for anyone but me.”
"Okay, be careful too." The woman didn't say anything more.
I sensed that the woman didn't seem particularly happy, so I continued to ask, "What's wrong, ma'am? Is there anything else you're worried about?"
The woman's trembling voice came from the other end of the phone, "Xiao Gu, someone splashed red paint on my front door..."
"Auntie, don't be afraid, I'm coming right now," I said, grabbing my coat as I comforted her.
I immediately dialed Officer Zhang's number. "Something's happened at that woman's house; we have to go right away."
The sound of sirens pierced the night sky as Officer Zhang and I rushed to the old lady's house.
The red paint was particularly glaring under the moonlight, flowing down the door panel like blood.
The woman and her family huddled in the living room, their faces pale.
"Officers, you've finally arrived..." the woman's voice was choked with sobs.
Officer Zhang showed his badge and said, "We will protect your safety."
The woman's son clenched his fist, his eyes hardening. "I've made up my mind. I'll have my parents as witnesses."
“I used to think it was better to avoid trouble…” he gritted his teeth, “but now they’ve gone too far!”
Officer Zhang smiled with satisfaction. "This was a wise decision."
I breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the woman's son, saying, "That's great, let's move into the safe house now, that way we can feel at ease beforehand."
The older woman gripped my hand tightly: "Thank you, Xiao Gu..."
The police car slowly drove towards the safe house, and in the darkness, I saw the woman and her family finally show expressions of relief.
After settling the aunt and her family in, I entered the house and found Jiang Yichen already sitting on the sofa.
His face was frighteningly gloomy.
Grandma winked at me, signaling me to say something nice.
I walked over cautiously. "Have you...eaten?"
Jiang Yichen did not answer, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
I forced myself to continue the conversation, "The weather's nice today..."
"Why did you ask those aunties and uncles to testify for you without my permission?" Jiang Yichen suddenly spoke, his voice icy.
I was stunned, and asked, "How did you know?"
"Are you following me?" I looked at him suspiciously.
Jiang Yichen sighed and said helplessly, "A police officer I know at the station told me."
I said "Oh" and lowered my head.
“This whole thing has finally come to this point…” I muttered to myself, “It would be such a shame if we couldn’t prosecute because of a lack of witnesses.”
Jiang Yichen's expression softened somewhat, and he told me, "I'm already handling it."
He stood up again, walked over to me, and said, "Don't worry."
I looked up at him and saw that there was more worry than blame in his eyes.
Grandma was relieved to see that we weren't arguing when she saw us at the kitchen door.
So I thought nothing more would happen today, but then, late at night, Jiang Yichen's phone suddenly rang.
"President Jiang, the man has been caught." The voice on the other end of the phone was low. "He's in the old warehouse in the west of the city."
Jiang Yichen immediately stood up, his eyes sharp.
Inside the warehouse, three thugs were tied to chairs, their faces bearing injuries.
"Who ordered you to do this?" Jiang Yichen's voice was as cold as ice.
The thugs turned their heads away and remained silent.
Jiang Yichen gave him a wink.
The subordinate stepped forward and delivered a heavy punch to the thug's abdomen.
"Ah!" the thug cried out in pain.
Jiang Yichen waited for the thugs to finish their pain before answering him, but they didn't.
“I’ll ask you one more time,” Jiang Yichen leaned down, his voice filled with anger, “Who ordered this?”
The rioters still did not answer.
The thug clenched his teeth, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
Jiang Yichen raised his hand, and his subordinate immediately handed him a pair of pliers.
"I heard you make a living with these hands?" Jiang Yichen slowly put on his gloves.
The thugs' faces turned deathly pale instantly.
"It's...it's the Jin family!" he finally broke down, shouting, "The Jin family made us do it!"
Jiang Yichen narrowed his eyes. "The Jin family?"
He recalled the recent business friction with the Jin family, and his eyes grew increasingly cold.
"Interesting." Jiang Yichen sneered. "Looks like it's time to meet this Boss Jin."
At the same time, Mr. Jin, the director of the Jin family, suddenly smashed his teacup on the ground.
"A bunch of useless trash!" he roared. "They can't even handle a woman!"
His subordinates lowered their heads, not daring to utter a sound.
"And he was captured by that brat from the Jiang family?" Master Jin's face was terribly gloomy.
He took out his cell phone and dialed a number.
“Old Li,” his voice carried a threat, “the tour group case is to be closed immediately.”
A troubled voice came from the other end of the phone, "Mr. Jin, this case has caused quite a stir..."
“I don’t care!” Jin interrupted. “I want to see the case report by tomorrow morning.”
He hung up the phone, his eyes filled with malice, already preparing to deal with the Jiang family.
Then, "The Jiang family..." he sneered, "It seems it's time to teach the young people some manners."
Jin Ye turned and walked towards the study, where he began dialing another number.
He said into the phone, "Gather everyone, prepare to have a proper 'talk' with the Jiang family."
