Chapter 248 Interview
Chapter 248 Interview
A few days later, the doctor finally announced that I could be discharged from the hospital.
Upon hearing the news, I was so happy I almost jumped out of bed—of course, the injury to my back forced me to sit still. As I packed my things, I plotted how to sneak home unnoticed, because I didn't want to be nagged by my grandmother anymore.
Just as I was smugly imagining myself leaving on my own, my phone rang. It was Jiang Yichen calling.
"Hello?" I answered the phone, my tone light and cheerful.
"You're being discharged today, right?" His voice was as deep as ever, but it sounded a bit serious.
"Yes! I was just about to go back by myself, so there's no need to trouble you."
I said with a grin, while already mentally planning how to avoid being seen by everyone.
"Don't think about it." He interrupted my reverie directly. "There are reporters all over the hospital downstairs right now, waiting to interview you."
"What? A reporter?" I was stunned, and my hands stopped moving. "Interview me? Why?"
“You forgot? You’re the protagonist of this incident.” His tone carried a hint of helplessness. “The news has been reporting on it for days, and everyone wants to know how you bravely stood up against the unscrupulous travel agency.”
I suddenly felt a headache coming on and couldn't help but rub my forehead. "Oh my god... I don't want to be surrounded by reporters asking me all sorts of questions."
“So,” he paused, a hint of smugness in his voice, “I’ve got it all arranged. I’ll pick you up later, and we’ll go out the back door to avoid the reporters.”
I breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a warmth in my heart at his thoughtfulness: "Okay, I'll listen to you."
After hanging up the phone, I quickly packed up the rest of my things and then sat on the edge of the bed to wait for him. Not long after, he pushed open the door and came in, wearing a low-key black trench coat, and carrying a hat and a pair of sunglasses.
"Are you taking me to film a spy movie?" I couldn't help but tease him.
He raised an eyebrow and handed me the hat and sunglasses: "Put these on, so no one recognizes you."
I obediently did as he said, putting on the hat and sunglasses. He looked me up and down and nodded: "Not bad, you can barely fool me."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes: "What do you mean 'barely'? With my demeanor, I'm at least at the level of a secret agent, right?"
He chuckled softly, ignoring my words, and instead reached out and grabbed my wrist: "Let's go, stop joking around."
We sneaked out of the ward like thieves, walking down the corridor towards the back door. Along the way, I couldn't help but look around nervously, afraid of being recognized. He, on the other hand, remained calm, as if this was commonplace for him.
"How come I never noticed you were like this before?" I asked him in a low voice.
He glanced at me, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Haven't you figured it out now?"
I pursed my lips and didn't say anything more. When we got to the back door, he peeked out first to make sure no one was there, then pulled me out quickly.
A black car was parked outside. He opened the door and gestured for me to get in quickly. I climbed into the car and breathed a sigh of relief: "Finally, we escaped!"
He got into the driver's seat, started the car, and asked casually, "How's it going?"
I couldn't help but laugh, took off my sunglasses and hat, and turned to look at him: "Yeah, Agent Jiang, I'll be counting on you from now on."
He smiled, said nothing more, and focused on driving. I leaned back in my seat, watching the scenery rushing past the window, and felt a sense of relief.
"I'll see Grandma soon."
"Grandma, oh, I almost forgot."
I chatted with the man along the way, and we arrived home in no time.
As soon as the door opened, Grandma rushed over, her face full of worry.
She grabbed my hand, looked me up and down, and asked urgently, "How are you? Does the injury still hurt? What did the doctor say? Is anything bothering you?"
I smiled and spun around, trying to reassure her: "Grandma, I'm fine! Look, I'm jumping around like a madman, there's nothing wrong with me!"
Seeing my reaction, Grandma's face immediately darkened: "You child, why are you so troublesome! Is it something you should be doing? What am I supposed to do if something happens to you?"
I tried to ease the tension: "Grandma, I had no choice at the time... I couldn't just watch everyone get hurt, could I?"
Grandma glared at me, her tone stern: "What do you mean there's no way? What can't you tell him?" She pointed at Jiang Yichen standing to the side and continued, "At the very least, he could send a few of his men to do it! You're a girl, why are you being so stubborn?"
I couldn't help but laugh, and winked mischievously: "Grandma, I don't have any helpers! I have to do this myself!"
Upon hearing this, Grandma immediately turned to Jiang Yichen, her tone brooking no argument: "You, quickly arrange ten or eight subordinates for her! From now on, she can't handle these kinds of things personally anymore!"
Jiang Yichen shrugged and looked at me helplessly: "I've wanted to make arrangements for a long time, but she wouldn't agree."
I quickly waved my hand: "No, no, no, I don't need any subordinates, they're too much trouble!"
Grandma, however, remained adamant: "There's no room for negotiation! If you dare to take another risk alone, I'll lock you up at home and forbid you from going anywhere!"
I was both amused and exasperated, and could only nod in agreement: "Okay, okay, I'll do as you say, alright?"
Grandma nodded in satisfaction and turned to walk towards the kitchen: "Alright, you all rest for a while. I'll go check if the food is ready. I've prepared a big feast tonight to celebrate your survival!"
I followed my grandmother into the dining room, and sure enough, the table was laden with a sumptuous feast, the aroma filling the air. Jiang's father was sitting at the table, and when he saw me come in, he smiled politely: "It's good that you're back. You'll have to be more careful in the future."
I nodded, about to speak, when I heard the older woman muttering beside me: "Hmph, acting like some great hero, he just brought this trouble upon himself..."
Upon hearing this, Grandma immediately straightened her face and glared at the older woman: "What are you saying? If it weren't for her, who knows how many more people those people would have harmed! If you can't speak properly, then shut up and eat!"
The woman's face turned ugly after being scolded by her grandmother, but she didn't dare to say anything more and could only lower her head.
Jiang Yichen sat down next to me, picked up a piece of braised pork and put it in my bowl, and said in a low voice, "Eat more, to nourish your body."
I smiled and nodded, feeling incredibly at ease.
The next day, I returned to my studio and saw a group of people gathered downstairs. At first, I thought it was some online celebrity filming a video, but upon closer inspection, I realized it was a group of reporters with microphones and cameras.
My heart skipped a beat, and I was about to turn and slip away, but it was too late. A sharp-eyed reporter spotted me and immediately shouted, "She's there!" Instantly, everyone surged over like a tidal wave, surrounding me completely.
What are your thoughts on this incident?
How did you discover that the tour group had a problem?
"Could you tell me which hotel it is? Is there something going on inside?"
I stood there, a little dazed. The microphone was practically shoving into my face, and the camera flash was so bright I could barely open my eyes.
I know I probably won't be able to leave today.
I took a deep breath, tried to calm myself down, and then answered with a smile: "Please don't rush, I'll answer one by one."
When the reporters quieted down a bit, their eyes remained eager. I cleared my throat and began to explain: "About that tour group, my friend and I actually discovered it by chance. We noticed that their itinerary was very unreasonable and the price was ridiculously low, so we kept a close eye on them. As for the hotel's name, we can't disclose it yet because the police are still investigating."
One reporter immediately pressed, "Do you have inside information? Otherwise, how could you have discovered their problem so conveniently?"
I shook my head, my tone calm: "There's no inside story. It's just that as a consumer, I'm more sensitive to these kinds of low-price traps. I hope everyone will be more careful when choosing tour groups in the future and not be greedy for cheap deals."
Another reporter squeezed forward and asked, "Are you planning to do live broadcasts focusing on exposing counterfeits in the future? After all, this incident has made you a 'counterfeit-fighting hero' in many people's hearts."
I smiled and said tactfully, "Well, I'm still considering it. I can't comment at the moment, but if my efforts can help more people avoid being scammed, I would be happy to do so."
As soon as I entered the company, I saw Xu Sisi and Xiaotiantian waiting for me at the door: "Momo, are you okay? We were really worried about you."
Little Sweetie spoke first, and Xu Sisi also pulled me around in a circle.
"it's okay no problem."
"It's okay."
Sweetie pulled me along, wanting to have a proper get-together with me.
How's the company doing these days?
“The traffic is very good right now, and it’s all from unscrupulous travel agencies. We can target them.”
I told Sisi that we should keep a low profile for now, otherwise you will also be threatened.
Xu Sisi told me very seriously, "What does danger matter? Traffic is also very important."
I said nothing.
"Is it really not possible?"
I answered Sisi bluntly: "No."
After a while, Sisi agreed with my idea.
