Chapter 241 Forced Separation
Chapter 241 Forced Separation
Gu Nanfeng really hadn't expected this flag to appear so suddenly; he didn't even have time to react. After struggling to control his emotions for a long time, he finally calmed down and quietly watched the narrowing gap.
"System, system," Gu Nanfeng called out after taking a few deep breaths.
"What?" For some reason, the system's attitude toward Gu Nanfeng was frighteningly cold at this moment.
"How far is Lu Yuan from us?" Gu Nanfeng didn't find anything unusual and asked his question as usual.
"Red light, it's bright again." Lin Yun, who was peering down through the crack, shouted as soon as Gu Nanfeng asked his question.
"The straight-line distance is less than 300 meters." The system voice sounded again.
With the red light guiding him and the system feedback indicating the distance, Gu Nanfeng became more composed. He looked around; he couldn't destroy the crevice with lightning right now, as even the slightest stimulation would cause the vines to wriggle again, potentially trapping Pei Sihao and Lu Yuan even deeper. He had to think of another method.
"Should we look around for a larger gap?" Lin Yun looked around, but there was definitely no larger gap in sight that would allow them to descend to the lower level.
"We're fine, Lu Yuan and I are both fine." Pei Sihao's voice came through the communicator intermittently, clearly trying to reassure Gu Nanfeng.
"Yes, I know. I'll find a way to come down and save you right away," Gu Nanfeng replied calmly. As he looked around and responded to Pei Sihao, he noticed that Yang Xiao, who had been put down by Ji Lang and was leaning against the vines behind him, was gradually sinking.
"Yang Xiao!" Gu Nanfeng shouted, and Ji Lang reacted immediately, turning around and grabbing Yang Xiao's ankle.
Yang Xiao's fall was also unexpected, but fortunately Ji Lang reacted quickly. However, even with Ji Lang's help, they could not resist the vines until Yang Xiao was completely trapped in them, and his hands were also wrapped by the vines.
"Grab Ji Lang, don't resist!" Gu Nanfeng shouted to Lin Yun, then rushed forward and grabbed Ji Lang's waist. Lin Yun reacted immediately and grabbed one of Ji Lang's legs.
Following Yang Xiao's downward spiral, Ji Lang, Gu Nanfeng, and Lin Yun were also drawn into the vines.
To Gu Nanfeng and his companions' surprise, the vines that had been binding them stopped wriggling not long after. These vines were strange; they didn't seem to want to kill them. Although they kept wrapping around them, they didn't tighten their grip, and even left enough space around them so that they could breathe normally.
"The red dot is over there!" Lin Yun pointed to their left front, where a red light was still flashing.
“But we are being pulled in the opposite direction.” Ji Lang pulled the still unconscious Yang Xiao into his arms. Although they were moving along with the vines, he could clearly feel the direction of their movement.
Gu Nanfeng also noticed this situation. He tried to do the opposite of what the vines did, but the harder he tried, the tighter the vines wrapped around him became, until he was almost unable to breathe, at which point he gave up trying.
"Huff! The more you resist, the tighter the vines will tighten." Gu Nanfeng gasped for breath.
Clearly, going against these vines now would be suicide, so the four of them could only relax and move along with the vines' movement, while Gu Nanfeng kept his eyes fixed on the spot where the red light was flashing.
"Strange, we can't hear Pei Sihao's voice anymore." Lin Yun could faintly hear Pei Sihao shouting in the environment, but it wasn't coming through their communicators.
"Xiao Hao! Pei Sihao!" Gu Nanfeng caught his breath and called out twice in the direction of the red light, but there was still no response from the communicator. Only a faint echo came from that direction. Their current distance should have been enough for the sound to travel, but now it sounded more and more distant.
“They might be moving in the opposite direction, just like us,” Ji Lang said, adjusting the flashlight on his protective suit. He had been keeping his flashlight on the whole time, and Pei Sihao was probably using the light from his flashlight to make his judgment.
“Not only can’t their voices get through, we’re communicating with our own voices right now.” Gu Nanfeng pointed to his ear under the protective shield. What they were actually hearing from each other was their normal speaking voices, not the communicators on their protective suits.
"Lu Yuan's system has bugged again?" Although they are currently using high-end interstellar protective suits that Lu Yuan took out from his space, the communication system inside was established by Lu Yuan's starship system. Now they have all received basic authorization from Lu Yuan's starship system, so in theory the communication system should not have any problems. However, recently they have indeed found that the communication system cannot make calls more than once.
"There might be some special magnetic field down there." While Gu Nanfeng was relaxing and drifting with the current, he had already tied the four of them together with a rope. Now that Pei Sihao and Lu Yuan were separated from them, it was best if the four of them didn't have any more accidents.
"You mean, such a large area of vines might have been formed due to the influence of some special magnetic field?" Ji Lang asked.
"I'm not entirely sure, but what could affect the system is probably a special magnetic field," Gu Nanfeng replied softly. He could now clearly feel that the vines had calmed down, though they were still twitching slightly. Fortunately, Lu Yuan and the others could still see the red light.
As for Pei Sihao and Lu Yuan, after they fell into the vine pit again, the vines began to writhe violently. If Lu Yuan's mecha hadn't expanded again, the two of them would have been strangled to death by the vines.
Lu Yuan still showed no signs of waking up, but his mecha system was functioning normally. So, as the vines tightened their grip, the system controlled the mecha to expand, shielding Pei Sihao beneath it.
As all this was happening, Pei Sihao kept calling out to Gu Nanfeng through the communicator, but there was no response from the other end. It wasn't until he faintly heard Gu Nanfeng's voice coming from a distance that Pei Sihao realized that the communication system had failed again.
"How can you be so unreliable?" Pei Sihao, hiding under Lu Yuan's mecha, questioned the system.
"I've been very reliable." The system was also helpless. It was originally just Lu Yuan's secondary system, not the mecha's exclusive system. Their communication system was originally built on the starship, but Lu Yuan used the starship too infrequently, so it had to be transferred to the mecha. However, when the mecha's authorization was low and there was no impact, the communication was not affected. But today, it had forcibly operated the mecha to activate the protection mode twice while Lu Yuan was unconscious, so it was normal for the communication system to be affected.
"When will it be repaired?" Pei Sihao asked again. By now, he could feel the vines starting to relax, perhaps because they had been choked by the metal lump that was Lu Yuan's mecha.
"We're working hard to repair it." The system responded coldly.
