Chapter 6, 1 order
Chapter 6, 1 order
Xia Shiyu had no idea that her dish had caused a sensation, and now she had entered a fairy tale world.
Although the system says she can't start the next task for the time being, she can plant vegetables next to the beginner's house to grow seeds. The vegetables planted here will mature in just two days, which is very convenient.
Moreover, she no longer needs to go in at night; she can do it anytime, which is very convenient.
She just doesn't have enough seeds right now; otherwise, she could just go to the village and contract a mountain to grow lots of vegetables.
However, she has now cleared out all the empty space in her house and planted bok choy and water spinach.
Although the process is a bit tiring, one acre can produce several thousand kilograms of vegetables, and we can sell them later.
In addition, the water spinach she planted earlier will be ripe in a couple of days. Once she sells some of them, the next task will be available, and she will be able to get new seeds.
As for her current home life, she plans to write a business plan and then check on the vegetables in her garden from time to time.
She recently discovered that small animals are stealing her vegetable seeds, so she needs to keep a closer eye on them. She thinks about how delicious these vegetables will be once they mature, and that even passing cattle and sheep might take a bite. So she needs to be extra careful. She might even get two more dogs to guard the house later.
Xia Shiyu had planned very well, but unexpectedly, she received a call from her aunt a couple of days later.
"Hello, Auntie, what's wrong?"
"Oh, Xiaoyu, are you busy right now?" Wu Meiling asked excitedly.
"I'm not busy," Xia Shiyu replied.
"It's good that you're not busy. Auntie, I have a favor to ask you. Do you still have any of the bok choy you gave me the other day?"
After hearing this, Xia Shiyu understood what her aunt meant. "There aren't any left for now. The remaining batch will take a while to ripen."
"Oh dear, this is a bit tricky. But it'll be fine once they're ripe in a few days. Could you send some to your aunt's house then? Your cousin's wife opened a small noodle shop this year, and her business is booming because she uses your vegetables. I cooked some for my family the other day. Xiaoyu, you guys grow really good vegetables..."
After Wu Meiling's explanation over the phone, Xia Shiyu finally understood what had happened. After receiving the bok choy she had sent, Wu Meiling thought about it and realized that the more than ten kilograms of bok choy would not be able to be eaten in a short time, and would wilt and become stale if left for too long. Since her daughter-in-law had just opened a noodle shop this year, she decided to keep some of the leftovers and send them to the noodle shop as side dishes.
Unexpectedly, this delivery caused quite a stir. The daughter-in-law looked at the delivered dishes and thought they were pretty good, so she put them directly into the noodles for the other guests to eat.
The other customers were amazed by the taste and kept asking for takeout or another bowl, saying that the owner's noodles were exceptionally delicious today.
The daughter-in-law was initially confused, but after finishing her business, she cooked a bowl for herself and found it was indeed much tastier than usual, even the soup was much better. Upon further investigation, she discovered that it was all thanks to the bok choy. After returning home and eating some of the stir-fried bok choy with Wu Meiling, she found it to be true. The whole family was very satisfied with the meal. Upon hearing that it was grown by Xia Shiyu herself, they immediately decided to come back to buy some more from her.
Xia Shiyu was both amused and exasperated after hearing this, but she could understand it all. After all, anything produced by the system was bound to be of high quality, so such delicious food deserved to be prepared this way.
However, she still made sure to explain the pros and cons to Wu Meiling: "Auntie, I will be able to get new vegetables soon, and water spinach will be available soon too. But the seeds and fertilizer are all high-quality products that I specially ordered from overseas, so the price may not be very low."
After hearing this, Wu Meiling calmed down for a while, and then thought about it carefully and understood. It was only natural that such delicious food was expensive. She couldn't possibly take advantage of her relatives. At worst, she could ask her daughter-in-law to put less food in the dish or raise the price a little. So she still told Xia Shiyu that she wanted the dish.
"Xiaoyu, don't worry, your aunt understands. This kind of vegetable is completely different from what farmers usually grow, so it's worth the higher price. Just send it over when the time comes."
"Okay, Auntie." After explaining things to Wu Meiling, Xia Shiyu hung up the phone. She had found another stable small wholesaler. Nice!
After ending her call with her aunt, Xia Shiyu thought for a moment and then went to her own field. She looked around and found some weeds, but not many, so she just pulled them out. She then observed the village and saw that almost every household's fields were still full of unripe rice and corn.
These two grains are the main source of income for the villagers. She had helped with the harvest when she was a child. Her father would even have to take leave from work to come back from other places to collect the grain. So she hated summer vacation the most because she had to do a lot of farm work.
Fortunately, she has now graduated, so her family doesn't grow much grain anymore. If they can get corn and rice seeds later, they can plant more and hire people to harvest it, so they don't have to do the work themselves.
As usual, I picked the vegetables from home and brought them back: loofah and egg soup, stir-fried green beans, and hot and sour shredded potatoes. After cooking, I went to pick up Yu Juan to come back for dinner.
Of course, she also encountered other villagers along the way, who were all quite surprised that she had returned.
"Oh, isn't this Xia Mei? You're back."
"When did you get back? My Haoran said he's been very busy lately."
"Go pick up your mom and take her home. She's upstairs."
Xia Shiyu could only smile in response to these words, because she didn't know what to say.
Their village is mostly populated by elderly people, children, and some middle-aged people. Most of the young people are away from home, working elsewhere and only returning for the Lunar New Year. So, they were all quite surprised to see Xia Shiyu return.
So all sorts of intentional or unintentional greetings came out, and she could only choose to say a few words to brush them off.
After successfully picking up Yu Juan, she hurried home, as the weather was still quite hot.
When she got home, she saw Yu Juan covered in sweat and couldn't help but say, "Mom, you don't need to come with me to work anymore. Just work with me, it won't be so hard."
Yu Juan ate her meal, not paying much attention. "It's okay, Mom's used to it. She's been having a pretty easy time lately."
Xia Shiyu felt helpless. She knew that her mother would definitely not agree until she achieved something, and her father, who worked in another city, would be even less likely to agree.
The main reason is that my grandmother was hospitalized a few years ago, and the family spent more than 20 yuan, which almost used up all of the family's savings. In the end, my grandmother passed away last year. My parents wanted to work for a few more years, so they worked very hard.
She was thinking that once she had leased the entire mountain from the village, she would call her parents back home so they could have some free time.
A few days later, the water spinach that had been planted with the bok choy matured. Xia Shiyu processed them all, kept some at home, and took the rest to the market to sell.
