Chapter 36 The Ceremony in Progress
Chapter 36 The Ceremony in Progress
Xiao Bai stood quietly by the window, her gaze fixed on the beautiful woman before her, whom she could manipulate at will. The woman's small face, once sparkling with life, now held no luster whatsoever. Their future clan leader's wife sat there like a soulless puppet, her eyes vacant, as if the entire world held no relation to her.
Xiao Bai knew perfectly well that this was caused by the "Bewitching Technique," a unique skill of their Ink Serpent Clan male orcs. This Bewitching Technique could penetrate deep into the target's mind, manipulating their deepest emotions and memories. Its terrifying aspect lay in its ability to silently influence others, turning the target into the caster's puppet without their knowledge. It could not only create convincing illusions but also implant or erase memories in the target's mind, and in extreme cases, even trigger a mental breakdown.
However, this power is a double-edged sword. Xiaobai had heard that improper use could have unpredictable consequences for the caster. She didn't know why the chieftain would cast a spell on a partner before the marriage ceremony, or whether using this enchantment was good or bad. Moreover, the marriage ceremony was about to begin; would the sacred tree approve of the chieftain's actions and bestow divine blessings?
The door slowly opened, and a ray of moonlight poured in from outside.
"Xinyao, I've come to pick you up." Mo, dressed in wedding attire and wearing a magnificent headdress, walked in from outside the door.
As soon as he entered, he released Chu Xinyao from his control. He hadn't actually done anything to Chu Xinyao; he had simply wanted her to have a clearer attitude towards their marriage.
Seeing that her beautiful eyes gradually regain their luster, he smiled and said, "The ceremony begins, my bride." He gently took Chu Xinyao's hand and led her towards the sacrificial square.
The mating ceremony of the Ink Serpent Tribe chief was exceptionally grand, with the entire tribe immersed in a lively atmosphere. Orcs, dressed in their festive best, beamed with joy. In the sacrificial plaza, a huge bonfire roared, its light illuminating the faces of every orc, warm and vibrant.
The giant tree in the square was now draped with colorful ribbons, which fluttered gently in the evening breeze like vibrant flags. Around it were wreaths woven from flowers, and within the wreaths sat a quaint little table.
The black serpent totem on the totem pole, with its eyes inlaid with gemstones, shimmered with a mysterious light in the firelight.
The tribe's elders sat around the totem pole, their faces etched with the marks of time, yet their eyes shone with wisdom. They chanted ancient incantations softly, blessing the newlyweds for the night.
The young orcs of the tribe began to dance, their footsteps striking the ground powerfully to the rhythm of the drums. Several females sang melodious songs on the sidelines, their voices clear and beautiful, like a mountain spring.
As the melodious song played, Mo led Chu Xinyao down from the flower-covered mountaintop.
[Sister Ting, what just happened?] Her memory loss was extremely abnormal before, and even she, with her slow reaction, noticed it, so Long Tingting couldn't possibly be unaware.
[You'd have to ask the man next to you; it's probably some kind of hypnosis.]
"Hypnosis?" Chu Xinyao murmured, her eyes flashing with anger and confusion.
"What?" Mo turned his head and looked at Chu Xinyao, who had stopped.
Chu Xinyao suddenly looked up at Mo. "Why did you do this?" She was very angry; she didn't understand why Mo had hypnotized her.
Mo's eyes flashed with surprise. "Xinyao, what's wrong?" He was puzzled as to why Chu Xinyao was suddenly angry.
"You cast a spell on me, didn't you!"
The magic of the Ink Serpent Tribe is very powerful and difficult to detect. He never thought that one day his magic would be noticed by the target.
"Xinyao, you found out? Let me explain..." He was somewhat flustered.
Chu Xinyao was furious. She forcefully shook off Mo's hand, took a few steps back, and maintained her distance. "How could you do this to me? What happened to our trust?" Her voice trembled, and tears welled in her eyes.
Mo reached out his hand, wanting to comfort her, but Chu Xinyao avoided his touch.
“Xinyao, I have my reasons for doing this.” Mo’s voice was low as he tried to explain, but Chu Xinyao’s anger rendered his words powerless.
Chu Xinyao clenched her fists, trying to calm herself. "What made you do such a thing? Do you know what being your partner means to me? Shouldn't I have considered this carefully?"
She paused for a moment, then continued, "To be honest, I'm starting to doubt whether marrying you was a mistake. You must be hiding something from me to be so eager for me to marry you."
Mo's expression changed drastically, and he shook his head, saying, "Xinyao, no, I only cast the spell to make you more decisive. I didn't interfere with your thoughts or decisions, and I canceled it as soon as I saw you. Really, you have to believe me..."
Chu Xinyao's gaze was fixed on Mo's face, trying to find answers in his eyes. She was conflicted; on one hand, she hoped Mo hadn't deceived her; on the other hand, she couldn't ignore her doubts.
“Xinyao, I know you're angry because I used a spell on you, and you won't completely believe anything I say, but I assure you, everything I did was for our own good. I was just... just afraid you'd hesitate and miss out, afraid that we'd end up like my parents. I'm sincere towards you, and you'll see when we become partners later. If we weren't truly in love, the Divine Tree wouldn't have bestowed this blessing upon us. How could I dare to deceive you!”
Mo tried to touch Chu Xinyao, but ultimately only stopped in mid-air.
Just then, a familiar female voice appeared: "Master, Sister Xinyao, why are you still here? The ceremony is about to begin."
Chu Xinyao looked at Xiao Hua running over, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes, but it quickly turned into determination. "I don't want to discuss this with you right now. We've already come this far, let's finish the ceremony first."
[You! You're hopeless!]
[Sister Ting, I can't completely ignore him, he is the clan leader after all...]
[Fine, I don't care about you anymore, do whatever you want.]
Mo was overjoyed; he had thought their relationship was over, but he hadn't expected things to turn around. "Good, good!"
He took Chu Xinyao's hand and ran towards the sacrificial square.
Beside the sacred tree, the elderly high priest, dressed in heavy sacrificial robes, looked towards the mountaintop with some confusion.
"They're here, they're here, the clan chief is here."
"Wow, the chieftain's wife is so beautiful!"
"As expected of the clan leader, to be paired with such a beautiful matriarch."
"Nonsense, our clan leader is..."
