Chapter 59 The Necklace, A Love Affair!
Chapter 59 The Necklace, A Love Affair!
Jiang Yang's promise put a huge weight off Dong Xin's mind.
She secretly glanced at Jiang Yang, her eyes filled with gratitude.
"Third Brother, you bought a gift for Sister Dong Xin!" Liu Ming suddenly interjected, pointing innocently to the necklace around Dong Xin's neck, "Necklace, Love!"
Liu Ming's unexpected remark stunned both Jiang Yang and Dong Xin.
For a moment, Jiang Yang didn't know how to explain.
He simply wanted to thank Dong Xin; he didn't mean anything else.
Dong Xin hadn't expected Liu Ming to be so direct, and she felt both sweet and flustered.
Jiang Yang snapped out of his daze and quickly waved his hands to explain, "No, it's not what you think, I didn't mean that..."
Seeing this, Dong Xin quickly said, "I know, I didn't misunderstand, don't feel guilty."
Her understanding gesture moved Jiang Yang even more.
The meal ended in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Jiang Yang stood up and said to Dong Xin, "Let me take you home."
Dong Xin nodded, said goodbye to the other three, and the two walked out of the restaurant side by side.
Along the way, the two chatted about interesting things at school, creating a harmonious and warm atmosphere.
Jiang Yang escorted her to her dormitory building, where the two stopped.
"Thank you for bringing me back," Dong Xin said softly.
"Of course," Jiang Yang smiled. "Get some rest."
"Okay, you should go back early too."
Dong Xin nodded, turned around and walked into the dormitory building.
Jiang Yang watched her figure disappear into the corridor before turning and leaving.
The next day, Jiang Yang walked into the classroom and immediately sensed that something was wrong.
The buzzing of voices was like a swarm of mosquitoes; everyone held a newspaper, pointing and gesturing excitedly.
"Jiang An is really amazing!"
"The writing and the story are absolutely amazing!"
Several girls even held newspapers, looking completely infatuated, as if they regarded "Jiang'an" as an idol.
Jiang Yang chuckled inwardly.
This scene seems familiar.
He recalled the fans who chased after celebrities in his past life, and their fanaticism was no more than this.
Meng Yan stood on the podium, beaming with pride.
The news that the newspaper price had increased to 1.5 yuan did not cause any dissatisfaction; on the contrary, it made the students even more enthusiastic.
The supply is insufficient to meet the demand!
Su Jingtong also had a newspaper in her hand, reading it with great interest.
The love stories in the novel sparked her imagination.
Last night, she even dreamed of a handsome man riding a white horse who came to save her from dire straits.
But Jiang Yang's appearance immediately shattered her illusions.
"Oh, isn't this Jiang Yang?" she said sarcastically. "We both have the surname Jiang, but how come there's such a big difference?"
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone's eyes in the classroom instantly focused on Jiang Yang.
Su Jingtong continued, "Jiang An's novel is truly wonderful; I couldn't sleep last night while reading it. Unlike some people, who are utterly useless and can't be helped at all."
She deliberately raised her voice to make sure everyone could hear her.
"Hey, that woman in the novel, what's her name... Leng Yue, she's aloof, cold and noble, no wonder the male lead can't forget her," Su Jingtong analyzed, feigning profundity.
“People along the riverbank will definitely like this one.”
Jiang Yang scoffed, "Su Jingtong, stop with your wild interpretations. Leng Yue is just a minor character with few lines; she's purely a tool to advance the plot."
Su Jingtong's expression changed: "What do you know! You country bumpkin, you have no appreciation skills at all!"
"Me, a country bumpkin?" Jiang Yang retorted. "You know anything about writing? You know anything about literature? What else can you do besides being born into a good family?"
"You!" Su Jingtong trembled with anger. "How dare you talk to me like that?"
"What, did I say something wrong?" Jiang Yang met her gaze without flinching.
"Jiang Yang, you've gone too far!" Xu Dan jumped out as well, pointing her finger at Jiang Yang's nose and cursing, "You're just a ignorant peasant!"
Jiang Yang couldn't be bothered with these two clowns.
Just then, Professor Zhang walked into the classroom and immediately spotted the three men who were locked in a tense standoff.
"Su Jingtong, Xu Dan!" he shouted sternly, "Both of you, I've blacklisted you. Don't come to my class again!"
Su Jingtong and Xu Dan were stunned.
They hadn't expected Professor Zhang to defend Jiang Yang so fiercely.
Professor Zhang walked over to Jiang Yang and patted him on the shoulder: "Jiang Yang, don't pay attention to them, just focus on your studies."
Su Jingtong and Xu Dan blushed and paled in turns, overwhelmed with shame.
The two then slunk away from the classroom.
As soon as the bell rang, Professor Zhang called out to Jiang Yang: "Jiang Yang, come here for a moment."
Jiang Yang was puzzled, but he still followed Professor Zhang to the academic room.
The study room was small, but the bookshelves were filled with various professional books, and the air was filled with a faint scent of ink.
There were already three people inside: a bespectacled, well-mannered boy; a tall, strong, and sunny-looking boy; and a girl with short, ear-length hair and sharp eyes.
Professor Zhang introduced them: "This is Hu Kang, a senior, the eldest brother; this is Sun Liang, a junior, the second eldest brother; this is Zhou Limin, a sophomore, the third eldest sister. You are the only one we accepted this year, so you can call them your senior brothers and sisters from now on."
Hu Kang pushed up his glasses and said with a smile, "Hello, junior brother."
Sun Liang also greeted him warmly: "Junior brother, feel free to ask us if you have any questions in the future."
Zhou Limin merely glanced at Jiang Yang indifferently without saying a word.
Jiang Yang responded politely to his two senior brothers, seemingly unconcerned about Zhou Limin's coldness.
He never intended to make any academic achievements; he was just going through the motions.
Professor Zhang gave the three students a few more instructions, asking them to take good care of Jiang Yang, and then left.
No sooner had Professor Zhang left than Zhou Limin said sarcastically, "Oh, isn't this our great writer Jiang An? What, tired of writing novels and want to come to the academic office to get some prestige?"
Jiang Yang frowned, wondering what he had done to offend this senior sister.
Seeing that Jiang Yang remained silent, Zhou Limin assumed he had tacitly agreed and her tone became even more sarcastic: "Let me tell you, Peking University is not a place for you to pull strings. If you want to get by here, you have to show some real skills."
Jiang Yang was getting impatient and didn't want to argue with this woman, so he simply ignored her and walked to the bookshelf to see what books he could borrow.
Seeing that Jiang Yang ignored her, Zhou Limin became even angrier. She grabbed Jiang Yang's arm and said sternly, "I'm talking to you, are you deaf?"
Jiang Yang shook off her hand and said coldly, "Senior sister, I don't know what I did to offend you. You don't have to target me like this, do you?"
Zhou Limin sneered: "Offend me? You got in through connections, what right do you have to talk to me?"
Jiang Yang felt a surge of anger, but he held back, not wanting to argue with her.
He turned to leave, but Zhou Limin stopped him again.
