Chapter 110: Taking charge of the overall situation
Chapter 110: Taking charge of the overall situation
"If it weren't for you, how could Yichen be missing now?"
She slapped him with tremendous force, as if she had used all her strength.
I was knocked back a few steps by her, and my ears started to ring.
Before I could speak, someone came to report to Lin Nan, their tone urgent.
"Assistant Lin, news of President Jiang's death has been leaked. The company now needs you to take charge."
Things had suddenly turned out this way, so Lin Nan had no choice but to return to the company to handle the affairs first.
Even though the rescue team said Jiang Yichen's chances of survival were very slim, I was unwilling to give up.
Ignoring all advice, I took a small boat and searched for Jiang Yichen's whereabouts on the vast sea.
The sea was completely still, with no trace of anyone who had ever been there.
I grew increasingly anxious and searched the crash site.
Finally, I found Jiang Yichen's clothes on a small reef nearby.
I thought it was Jiang Yichen, so I quickly spurred the small boat to rush over.
Unexpectedly, it was just his coat hanging there.
I bent down to pick up the garment, but suddenly a wave crashed over and capsized the small boat.
I fell into the water, and when I came to my senses again, the scene in front of me had turned into an isolated island.
I tried looking around, attempting to find a way to contact the outside world.
But a familiar voice suddenly appeared behind me.
"Stop looking. We can only leave now when the rescue team arrives."
Seeing Jiang Yichen appear, I finally felt relieved.
Fortunately he's fine.
As I watched him approach, I excitedly scrambled to my feet and, ignoring my filth, rushed straight toward him.
"That's great, Jiang Yichen, you're still alive."
When Jiang Yichen saw me do this, he pushed me away with obvious disgust, his tone carrying a hint of something strange.
"Don't touch me, I'll have bad luck every time I touch you."
I smiled at him, completely ignoring his words.
As long as I'm sure he's alright, it doesn't matter if he says something to me.
After all, he put himself in such danger to save me.
"Alright, now it's just the two of us on this deserted island. You should hurry up and gather some branches, or it will get cold at night."
Upon hearing his words, I immediately became serious and readily agreed.
"I understand, I'll go in a bit."
After replying, I walked into the woods not far away. There weren't many branches to collect on the outskirts of the woods; most of them were damp and rotten.
Left with no other choice, I had to venture deeper into the area.
After pruning most of the branches, I planned to go back.
To my surprise, I suddenly stepped into a pit, and what's worse...
There was actually a bear trap down there.
A piercing pain shot through my ankle, causing my face to contort in agony. I raised my voice and cried out for help to Jiang Yichen outside.
Fortunately, he heard my voice and rushed over.
When he saw the blood streaming down my ankle, he immediately frowned.
Without a second thought, he forcefully pried open the animal trap with his bare hands, then tore off his own clothes and used the strips of cloth to bandage me.
I tried my best to suppress the pain and not make a sound, but tears kept streaming down my face.
Jiang Yichen led me out of the woods and carefully analyzed the current situation.
“The animal traps look like they were just set recently. Since there are animal traps, it proves that someone has been to this deserted island, or that someone lives there.” At first, he was supporting me, but my leg injury made it too slow for me to walk.
As I walked, my wound was aggravated, and blood continued to flow.
The strips of cloth Jiang Yichen wrapped around me were soon soaked with blood.
Noticing that I was walking slower and slower, he simply squatted down in front of me and said in a deep voice.
"Get on, I'll carry you out."
Seeing him like that, I felt a little embarrassed.
When I hesitated, Jiang Yichen lowered his voice even further, as if he were mocking me.
“You used to make things difficult for me a lot, and I’ve never seen you feel embarrassed.”
His words left me speechless.
It's getting late, and it wouldn't be good for either of us to stay any longer.
I stopped worrying about it and obediently lay down on his back.
When he carried me on his back, I could feel his burning body temperature.
For some reason, my heart was beating exceptionally fast at that moment.
Jiang Yichen carried me to a small house.
The house wasn't big, and it was a bit drafty on all four sides, but thankfully it had basic necessities.
It looks like a temporary residence for the island's inhabitants.
Although the facilities were very basic, at least they allowed us to get through the night safely.
That's enough for us.
Jiang Yichen went out again and retrieved the branches I hadn't brought back.
Watching Jiang Yichen study how to start a fire, I was filled with emotion and couldn't help but express my gratitude.
"Jiang Yichen, thank you for saving me."
Upon hearing my words, Jiang Yichen paused for a few seconds, but quickly resumed his normal actions, followed by his cold voice.
"Gu Mo, don't flatter yourself. I would save even the smallest cat or dog today."
Upon hearing this, my eyes dimmed slightly, and a bitter feeling welled up inside me.
Even so, it's a fact that he saved me.
I tried my best to suppress my emotions and thanked him sincerely again.
Even so, I still want to thank you.
Jiang Yichen ignored me and silently lit the fire.
He gave me the bed, while he curled up and lay down by the fire.
We spent the night huddled together in the small room.
In the middle of the night, I heard a series of mournful sounds.
I was awakened by the sound and sat up, trying to figure out where it was coming from.
It sounded like an animal's cry, like a desperate scream.
Seeing that Jiang Yichen was fast asleep, I felt embarrassed to wake him, so I could only try to get out of bed myself.
Even though I was being extra careful, I still made some noise.
Upon hearing the sound, Jiang Yichen immediately opened his eyes and warily surveyed his surroundings.
Seeing my actions, he sat up, looked me over, and asked me questions.
"What are you doing?"
I didn't answer him, but asked him in a soft voice instead.
"Jiang Yichen, did you hear anything?"
Jiang Yichen was silent for two seconds, then got up from the ground and spoke.
"I'm going out to check. Don't move around."
After saying that, he went out.
Not long after, he returned carrying a wolf cub in his arms.
The little wolf had an injured leg and was howling incessantly.
Jiang Yichen carried the little wolf back to the fire and tore off some of his clothes to bandage it again.
His movements were even gentler, more careful than when he bandaged me.
I watched quietly from my bed, my mind racing with thoughts.
I guess I was overthinking it from the start.
In his mind, I was no different from these animals.
I thought I was at least different.
He treated the wolf cub's wounds before falling asleep again.
I woke up early the next morning because I was cold.
The fire went out sometime ago, and now the whole little room is freezing cold.
I pulled the blanket tighter around myself and instinctively looked toward the fire.
They discovered that Jiang Yichen was no longer in the house, and they didn't know where he had gone.
The little wolf I brought back last night also curled up with me.
Just then, Jiang Yichen returned carrying a pile of tree branches.
