Chapter 180 Killing Two Eagles with One Arrow
Chapter 180 Killing Two Eagles with One Arrow
"If you hadn't imprisoned her, why would Grandma have resorted to such a desperate measure?"
Jiang Yichen argued his case logically, and Grandpa Jiang didn't say anything more.
Jiang Yichen turned to look at me. I hesitated, my eyes reddening, and said, "I want to stay."
He nodded gently and said to me, "Okay, you stay here and look after Grandma. I'll go and take care of the hospital admission procedures, and then I'll come back."
I nodded and waited at the door for Grandma to be wheeled out before following the nurse back to the ward.
I was about to follow him in when Jiang's father sternly stopped me.
"You can't go in."
"You and Jiang Yichen were just now..." I frowned, not expecting Old Master Jiang to change his mind at the last minute, and said with dissatisfaction.
I was interrupted before I could finish speaking.
"Take her back with me."
He ordered his men to forcibly take me back to the Jiang family and confiscated my phone to prevent me from contacting the outside world again.
“Grandpa Jiang, you can’t do this. There’s no one to take care of Grandma.”
“Miss Gu, mind your own business! I will find someone to take care of my own mother. You don’t need to pretend to be so sympathetic here.” Old Master Jiang was unmoved by reason.
They took me back to the Jiang family home and locked me in a room on the third floor.
This room has no other way out except for the balcony.
I tried to find a way to escape, but the door to the room was locked tightly and the windows were fitted with security bars, so I couldn't leave at all.
After Grandpa Jiang returned home, he came to my room.
He looked coldly at the female lead and said, "You can stay here. Once Jiang Yichen has settled things at the company, he'll take you away with him. Our Jiang family can no longer tolerate a jinx like you."
A pang of sorrow gripped my heart.
I know that I bear a great deal of responsibility for what happened to my grandmother.
Jiang Yichen hated himself even more because of this, and may even have developed resentment towards the entire Jiang family.
I feel like a sinner, and I can't forgive myself for my mistakes.
I hid in my room alone, silently shedding tears.
As I recalled the moments I shared with my grandmother, my heart was filled with guilt and self-reproach.
I felt I had no face to face my grandmother, let alone Jiang Yichen.
Time seemed to stand still at that moment, and I was immersed in deep self-reproach from which I could not extricate myself.
I don't know how to face the future, let alone how to make up for my mistakes.
I could only pray silently that my grandmother would recover soon and that Jiang Yichen would forgive himself.
I drifted off to sleep in the dimly lit room without realizing it. Perhaps because of my worries and exhaustion, her dreams were chaotic and heavy.
In my half-awake state, I vaguely heard a commotion coming from downstairs. The sounds seemed to be arguing, or perhaps fighting.
I struggled to my feet and slowly crawled to the door, pressing my ear against the cold door to try and hear what was happening downstairs.
The sounds from downstairs were intermittent, a mixture of anger, crying, and scolding.
Although I couldn't hear it very clearly, I could vaguely make out Jiang Yichen's voice and the old lady's shrill screams.
Immediately afterwards, I heard some shocking news—Jiang Yichen brought back a woman and a child, claiming that the two were Jiang's father's mistress and child.
My heart skipped a beat; I couldn't believe my ears.
An angry shout from downstairs came the old woman's voice, "Jiang...you old bastard, how dare you have a mistress outside! This woman is almost old enough to be your daughter..."
downstairs
The woman was so angry that she lunged at Jiang's father to hit him, but was pushed away forcefully by the old man.
During the scuffle, the woman's waist hit the corner of the table, causing her so much pain that she couldn't straighten up and could only lie on the ground groaning.
"You heartless bastard, you favor your concubine over your wife, I'll make sure everyone knows about you..."
I listened intermittently to the noises downstairs, imagining a chaotic scene.
Suddenly, everything became clear. Old Master Jiang realized he couldn't control Jiang Yichen, so he staged this whole "switcheroo" scheme. The paternity test was probably fake too, and his goal was to kick Jiang Yichen out of the company so that his illegitimate son could inherit it.
That's killing two birds with one stone.
The argument downstairs grew increasingly heated, and I was terrified listening to it from inside my room. Although I couldn't witness it firsthand, I could feel the intense tension just from the sounds.
Jiang's father's voice rang out from downstairs, tinged with disdain and provocation: "So what if I have an illegitimate child? Isn't Jiang Yichen also an illegitimate child? What are you trying to achieve by pulling this stunt?"
Jiang Yichen's voice was as cold as ice, filled with undisguised anger and mockery: "Do you think your illegitimate child can inherit the Jiang family's wealth? Let me tell you, this child is not your biological offspring at all!"
As he spoke, Jiang Yichen threw a paternity test report in front of Old Master Jiang. The report, like a bolt of lightning, shattered the arrogance on Jiang's father's face.
He stared wide-eyed at the report, as if he had witnessed something terrifying.
"What did you say? This is impossible!" Old Master Jiang's voice trembled; he couldn't accept this cruel reality.
Jiang Yichen sneered and continued, "Also, the paternity test you received before was fake. It was this woman who used her child to do the paternity test, her purpose being to force me out so that her child could rightfully inherit the Jiang family's assets."
Jiang Yichen's words were like a sharp knife, piercing Jiang's father's heart.
He stared wide-eyed at the woman and child in front of him, his eyes filled with anger and disappointment.
The older woman listened from the side, her face showing shock and anger.
She finally understood that it was all a conspiracy by this woman. In order for her child to inherit the Jiang family's property, she did not hesitate to fabricate lies and forge evidence to frame Jiang Yichen.
Faced with the male protagonist's questioning, the woman became increasingly agitated. She cried out with tears streaming down her face, insisting, "Everything he said is nonsense. I have never done any of those things."
She held the child tightly in her arms, as if he were her only support and proof.
"Jiang Yichen, how dare you frame me like this? This child is your father's biological child. Are you going to disown your own brother just to fight for the family fortune?" the woman shouted hoarsely, trying to use the bond of kinship to bind Jiang Yichen and his father together.
Jiang Yichen looked at her coldly, his eyes filled with disdain and anger.
"Do you dare to take this child for another paternity test? Use scientific evidence to prove your innocence," Jiang Yichen said provocatively. He knew the woman wouldn't dare, because once the test was done again, her lies would be exposed.
