Chapter 202 How could she be pregnant?
I originally wanted to argue with Jiang Yichen a bit more, hoping he could understand my thoughts and situation, but Jiang Yichen's attitude was unusually firm. He didn't give me a chance to speak at all, and just coldly said, "There's no room for discussion on this matter. Don't let me find out that you've harmed this child."
After saying that, he forcefully settled me onto the bed and strode out of the room. I lay alone in bed, filled with frustration and helplessness. My hand unconsciously stroked my abdomen, where a new life was growing—a life I had never anticipated. This child had certainly come at the worst possible time. I was filled with confusion and bewilderment. I had always taken precautions; how could I still be pregnant?
My body was always tired after becoming pregnant, and coupled with the frustration in my heart, I actually fell asleep in a daze.
The next morning, I forced myself to cheer up and prepared to leave for work as usual. But as soon as I got downstairs, Jiang Yichen stopped me. He looked at me sharply and asked, "Where are you going?"
I frowned, a surge of displeasure rising within me, but I still tried to answer calmly, "Of course I'm going to work."
I tried to remain calm, but a mix of complex emotions were churning inside me.
Jiang Yichen's words left me somewhat amused and exasperated. He was clearly trying to change the subject, yet he acted as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "I had some side dishes prepared this morning, come and try them," he said, seemingly forgetting that I was about to go to work.
I raised my wrist, glanced at the time, and said anxiously, "I'm going to be late for work, how can I have time for breakfast?"
Jiang Yichen remained unmoved and said firmly, "Then take leave and rest well at home."
I glanced at him helplessly and replied coldly, "I know my own body, don't worry. I won't do anything to the child until I make a decision." After saying that, I ignored him and turned around to take a taxi to the company.
As soon as he arrived at the live stream room, Zhao Ning excitedly came over. His voice was filled with excitement as he announced, "We've made it to the finals of the overall anchor competition!"
This news stunned me for a moment, and then I fell into deep thought. Given my current physical condition, I really can't participate in those strenuous activities, but this is an opportunity I've worked so hard to get, how can I give it up so easily?
Zhao Ning seemed to sense my concerns and suggested, "Perhaps we should prepare some special programs. If we keep the same programs as before, it will be difficult to attract new fans."
I nodded and thought about it seriously. Suddenly, a brilliant idea flashed into my mind, and I said, "Maybe we can order some confetti cannons and set them off whenever someone sends a gift. That would really liven up the live stream."
Upon hearing my suggestion, Zhao Ning's eyes lit up, and he slammed his hand heavily on the table, excitedly saying, "Then let's do it your way!"
We had everything ready, and just as I excitedly opened my live streaming account, I discovered that it had been suspended. Zhao Ning and I looked at each other, completely bewildered.
"Gu Mo, what's going on? Everything was fine just two days ago, how could your privileges be suddenly suspended?" Zhao Ning asked anxiously.
I shook my head, my mind a complete mess, utterly clueless about what had happened. "I don't know either."
"Wait a minute, I'll go ask Lao Mo what's going on," Zhao Ning suggested.
I nodded, feeling uneasy. Then, I went to Lao Mo's office, pushed open the door, and asked directly, "Lao Mo, what happened? Why was my account suspended?"
When Lao Mo saw me, he gave an awkward smile. He rubbed his hands together and stammered, "Have you offended President Jiang again recently?"
His words made me instantly realize that Jiang Yichen was behind it all. A surge of anger and helplessness welled up inside me, but I tried my best to remain calm and asked, "Did President Jiang tell you to do this?"
Old Mo nodded, looking at me with a troubled expression: "I also received a phone call from President Jiang this morning, informing me that he will not allow you to continue your live broadcasts."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I knew that arguing with Lao Mo now would be pointless; I could only try to solve the immediate problem. "How about I have a proper talk with President Jiang?" I asked tentatively.
Old Mo sighed and shook his head: "You know President Jiang's temper; once he's made up his mind, it's hard to change it. But you can try; maybe he'll listen to your explanation."
"I really don't know what's wrong with him this time." I muttered to myself, my dissatisfaction surging like a tide. But no sooner had I said that than Jiang Yichen's cold voice came from behind me: "What are you doing here?"
I turned around abruptly, glared at him, and said with a hint of coldness and helplessness, "If you don't want me to do live streams, you might as well just fire me."
Looking back, whenever I suggested leaving, Jiang Yichen would always use debt as an excuse to keep me there, making me pay off my debts and preventing me from leaving easily.
Therefore, I am certain that Jiang Yichen will not actually agree to fire me this time; it is just another threat.
However, Jiang Yichen's words the next second were like a bolt from the blue, startling me: "Since you want to leave, then terminate the contract automatically. Come to my office in a bit to talk."
I stared dumbfounded at Jiang Yichen's departing figure until Lao Mo gently nudged me, bringing me back to my senses.
I hurriedly followed Lao Mo into the office, my heart filled with mixed feelings.
Facing Jiang Yichen, I tried to play dumb: "I don't have any money to pay the penalty for breach of contract."
Jiang Yichen crossed his arms, a half-smile playing on his lips, his eyes seeming to be watching a good show.
I followed Jiang Yichen into his office, still calculating how to handle the situation. As soon as I entered, I said bluntly, "Terminate the contract? I don't have the money to pay the penalty."
Jiang Yichen smiled unexpectedly and said, "You don't need to pay compensation, just sign your resignation."
I took the resignation letter he handed me, but a question arose in my mind.
I hesitated to sign immediately because I hadn't yet figured out the connection between Jiang Yichen and the Gu family's bankruptcy, and I couldn't just give up the opportunity to investigate so easily.
I looked up at Jiang Yichen, trying to find an excuse to delay: "Even if I don't have to pay the penalty for breach of contract, I still need to earn money to live. If I terminate the contract here, I still need to find another job."
Jiang Yichen's face instantly darkened. He abruptly withdrew his resignation application and said in an icy tone, "Don't even think about it. You just stay here and don't even think about going anywhere."
