Chapter 332: Stand alone
Chapter 332: Stand alone
She added, "Of course, this requires your support."
The scene suddenly fell silent, with only the faint sound of the air conditioner running and the faint breathing of the people next to them.
“We’ll do it your way.” I turned around and saw a bright smile on Xu Sisi’s face. “However,” I added, “you will be in charge of this project personally.”
She nodded emphatically, her eyes shining: "Don't worry, I will definitely do a good job."
And so, our online store plan was officially launched. Xu Sisi, like a wound-up toy, led the team to work overtime.
She was always the first to arrive at the studio and the last to leave. Sometimes, when I passed by the office late at night, I could still see her frowning and deep in thought as she stared at the computer screen.
A month later, our online store officially launched. On opening day, orders exceeded expectations. Watching the numbers constantly jumping in the backend, Xu Sisi finally showed a relieved smile. That smile reminded me of when we independently completed a project years ago.
Our online store has now become a significant growth engine for the company.
Whenever I see Xu Sisi confidently explaining operational data in the meeting room, I am glad that I took her advice.
This seemingly delicate girl, with her vision and execution, opened a new door for the studio to transform into a company on the road to digital transformation.
The night before, just as I was preparing to return to the studio the next day, Xiao Huai developed a fever.
The clock on the wall pointed to one in the morning. I vaguely heard Xiao Huai tossing and turning in bed, making uneasy groans.
I reached out and touched his forehead; it was frighteningly hot. I sat up abruptly, turned on the bedside lamp, and saw that Xiao Huai's face was flushed and his breathing was a little rapid.
"Jiang Yichen, wake up!" I nudged him as he slept soundly beside me. "Xiao Huai has a fever."
He woke up almost instantly, rolled over, and got out of bed. We frantically dressed Xiao Huai, who leaned limply against me with his eyes closed, like a sick kitten.
"I'll go get the car, you take Xiao Huai downstairs." Jiang Yichen grabbed the car keys and was about to rush out.
Just then, Grandma's door opened. She was wearing a coat and looked worried: "What's wrong? Is Xiao Huai feeling unwell?"
"Grandma, don't worry, he just has a fever. We'll take him to the hospital to get checked out." I reassured Grandma as I carried Xiao Huai toward the door.
"I'll go with you," Grandma said, starting to change her shoes.
"It's so late, you should rest at home," Jiang Yichen advised. "There are too many people at the hospital, you'll only cause trouble if you go."
“Yes,” I replied, “we’ll be back soon. You can wait at home so we can take care of you if anything happens.”
Grandma hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded: "Then be careful on the road, and call me anytime if anything happens."
The streets were deserted late at night, the streetlights casting dappled shadows on the car windows. Xiao Huai leaned against me, her breathing a little heavy. Jiang Yichen drove very fast, glancing at us in the rearview mirror every now and then.
"Don't drive too fast," I whispered a reminder. "Safety first."
The emergency room was brightly lit, and the smell of disinfectant filled the air. The nurse took Xiao Huai's temperature: 39.2 degrees Celsius. My heart clenched, and Jiang Yichen's hand unconsciously tightened around the back of the chair.
I let out a long sigh of relief, and felt Jiang Yichen's tense shoulders relax as well. Xiao Huai seemed to sense our change in mood, opened her drowsy eyes, and hummed softly.
On the way home, Xiao Huai's temperature was still very high. Jiang Yichen drove while glancing back at him every now and then, his eyes filled with heartache. I gently patted Xiao Huai's back, humming his favorite children's song.
When we got home, Grandma was still sitting in the living room waiting for us. Seeing Xiao Huai's flushed face, she was heartbroken and kept wiping away tears. Following the doctor's instructions, I wiped Xiao Huai's body with warm water. Jiang Yichen helped by the side, his movements as gentle as if he were handling a fragile piece of porcelain.
"Let me hold him for a while." Jiang Yichen reached out and carefully took Xiao Huai in his arms. Xiao Huai moved slightly in his arms, seemingly finding a comfortable position, and gradually calmed down.
Looking at his focused profile, I suddenly remembered when we first had Xiao Huai, he was like this too, staying up all night.
This man's love is hidden in every little gesture.
As night deepened, moonlight streamed through the curtains, illuminating Xiao Huai.
I closed the door gently, afraid of waking Xiao Huai.
The next morning, Xiao Huai's fever finally broke. She opened her eyes and gave us a sweet smile. Jiang Yichen breathed a sigh of relief and gently kissed Xiao Huai's forehead.
"We'll have to be more careful from now on," Grandma muttered as she fed Xiao Huai water. "Such a young child can't withstand any rough treatment."
"That's right, thankfully nothing serious happened."
"You're too far along in your pregnancy now, so try not to bring the baby if you can."
I nodded, looking at the child with guilt, thinking that I should have been more careful back then. Grandma suddenly comforted me from the side, "It's okay, it's Momo's first time being a mother. Back in the day, Jiang Yichen was sick countless times when he was a child."
While responding to Grandma's words, I helped Xiao Huai tidy up her things.
"I need to go to the studio today."
"now?"
"Yes, then please be careful on your way. Xiao Huai will be well taken care of by the nanny and me at home."
As I responded to Grandma's words, I helped Xiao Huai pack her things. Grandma was still nagging, reminding me, "Remember to bring an umbrella, the weather forecast says it will rain this afternoon. Eat lunch on time, don't forget again when you're busy..."
"I know, Grandma," I interrupted her with a smile, "Don't worry, I'm entrusting Xiao Huai to you."
As I grabbed my bag and headed out, I glanced back at Xiao Huai, who was playing with building blocks on the living room carpet. He looked up, waved his little hand at me, and started chattering away. His sweet, childlike voice melted my heart.
Inside the car, Gu Bai sent a message.
"Sister, how is Xiao Huai now? Can he call me uncle yet?"
I laughed out loud when I saw Gu Bai's message.
This kid, he's already thinking about calling his uncle before his mother has even started calling him that. She replied, "Guess?"
Then another emoji was added.
After posting, I drove to the studio.
The studio wasn't far, only a twenty-minute drive away. As soon as I pushed open the glass door, I heard a "bang," and confetti rained down from above.
"Welcome back!" Little Sweetie shouted, and the other colleagues joined in with applause. The office was decorated with balloons and banners, and a beautifully decorated cake sat on the table.
"What are you doing here..." I was somewhat surprised.
"Celebrating your return from maternity leave!" Little Sweetie hooked her arm around mine. "We've missed you so much these past few days."
I looked around and saw that the office had been renovated, with several new live-streaming studios and upgraded equipment. What surprised me most was that Lin Xiaxia was now able to handle things independently.
