Chapter 389 My Little Sister is So Good
Chapter 389 My Little Sister is So Good
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains and gently fell on Jiang Yichen's face.
Jiang Yichen slowly woke up to the warm touch, rubbing his sleepy eyes. A hint of confusion flashed in his eyes before he quickly became alert and muttered to himself, "I need to get this demolition issue sorted out today."
He thought about the demolition matters he had to deal with today, especially meeting the old lady's son, and a sense of nervousness and anticipation welled up in his heart.
He quickly got out of bed, tidied his pajamas with practiced ease, and strode into the bathroom.
While he was washing up, I got out of bed and washed up with him.
After washing up, he opened the wardrobe, his eyes scanning the clothes one by one. He frowned slightly, pondered for a moment, and then carefully selected a gift that was both appropriate and thoughtful.
He held the gift in both hands, examining it carefully, a slight smile playing on his lips, seemingly quite pleased with it. Then, I went out with him; at that moment, Xu Sisi also came out.
"Sister Mo, have you gone out?"
"Okay." I quickly replied to Xu Sisi's message.
Jiang Yichen and I got into the car together and drove to Grandma's house. The atmosphere inside the car was quiet the whole way. Jiang Yichen leaned back in his seat, his fingers unconsciously tapping his knee, his eyes occasionally drifting to the window, revealing a hint of unease. He pursed his lips slightly and sighed softly from time to time.
After arriving at Grandma's house, we knocked on the door. A moment later, Grandma opened the door with a beaming smile, her eyes crinkling into crescents, and warmly welcomed us inside. "Oh, you've finally arrived! Come in, come in!"
Grandma spoke while holding our hands, and her warmth filled our hearts.
When she saw the gifts in our hands, she rubbed her hands on her apron and said, "Why did you bring anything? I can't accept this; it's too valuable."
They hurriedly ushered us inside. "Take these; these insights are quite common. Consider them a small token of our appreciation."
Hearing the commotion outside, the two children guessed that we had arrived and quickly put down the cloth they were wiping the table with.
"Sisters, you've arrived."
My little sister came running over from not far away, and I took out the candy I was holding and handed it to her. "You're such a good little sister."
"It feels like it's going to rain soon."
Song Yang's voice came from behind.
"Sister Mo!" I recognized Xu Sisi's voice. I looked over and saw the two of them come in together. "Why did you two come together?"
Xu Sisi explained to me, "It's about to rain, and Song Yang said he was passing by my house and gave me a ride. He also told Grandpa Song about what happened yesterday, and he even praised us."
Song Yang quickly added, "Yes, I praised you again."
I quickly changed the subject and walked inside, but I didn't see Li Qiang.
"Didn't he come back today?" I asked doubtfully.
"No, he said he would come back yesterday, but I haven't seen him today."
“It’s okay, let’s wait a bit longer,” Jiang Yichen said.
"The food will be ready soon, just wait ten more minutes."
As the grandmother spoke, she went into the kitchen, leaving the two children to pour tea for us.
Soon, a delicious aroma wafted from the kitchen.
The children's grandmother brought out a plate of tender, reddish-brown braised pork. Its glossy red color was incredibly appetizing. Smiling, she said, "Try my braised pork; I guarantee you'll love it." Next, she brought out a plate of homegrown vegetables, stir-fried until vibrant green and juicy, exuding a refreshing aroma. "These vegetables are so fresh; I just picked them from the garden this morning," the grandmother proudly introduced.
We sat around the table with the child's grandmother and began to enjoy this sumptuous lunch.
The food was delicious; although it was a common dish, I hadn't tasted it like this in a long time.
Halfway through the meal, I suddenly heard footsteps at the door. Then, the door was gently pushed open, and a middle-aged man walked in.
He was of medium build, with a somewhat tired face, a slightly furrowed brow, and a cunning glint in his eyes.
Upon seeing us inside, he paused, his eyes widening in surprise. He clearly hadn't expected to have guests.
We immediately realized that the person in front of us was Grandma's son. For a moment, the atmosphere in the room became somewhat awkward. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at each other.
Fortunately, Grandma reacted quickly, stood up with a smile, and said, "Son, didn't you say you were coming back yesterday? These two are here to discuss the demolition with us. Come and have something to eat with us."
As Grandma spoke, she waved to her son, her eyes full of love, seemingly oblivious to his unreliable demeanor.
This is Li Qiang. Looking at the child in front of me, there are indeed some similarities, but his behavior and temperament are completely different.
"This guy doesn't seem reliable at all," Xu Sisi muttered to me, her head down.
The man pursed his lips, gave a slightly perfunctory smile, and slowly walked in. He scratched his messy, unkempt hair and said in a nonchalant manner, "Hey, I was just messing around out there, but last night I suddenly remembered that my house is going to be demolished. I thought about it and decided I had to come back and take a look. I didn't have time to tell you in advance."
Grandma held her son's hand and made him sit next to her. With a smile on her face, she introduced him to us, saying, "This is my son, Li Qiang. Although his work outside is not very stable, he is always trying his best. These two are here to help with the demolition. They are both very good people."
After Li Qiang sat down, he casually sat on the stool with a faint smile on his lips and said nonchalantly, "Hello, it's kind of you to make this trip. You'll have to put a lot of effort into this demolition."
We quickly replied, "No trouble at all, it's our pleasure."
The tense atmosphere eased slightly, but seeing Li Qiang's nonchalant attitude still made people feel uneasy.
After lunch, we cleared the table together. Grandma brought out a plate of fruit, placed it on the table, and said with a smile, "Have some fruit to cleanse your palate." Then we sat down in the living room, ready to have a proper discussion about the demolition. Grandma poured each of us a cup of tea; the fragrant aroma added a touch of gentleness to the somewhat serious conversation.
I spoke first, leaning forward slightly with a sincere expression: "Li Qiang, Grandma, we know this demolition is a big deal for you, and we sincerely hope to find a solution that satisfies everyone."
Li Qiang raised an eyebrow, a half-smile on his face, a calculating glint in his eyes: "There are definitely benefits to this demolition, but after living in this old house for so many years, it would be a lie to say I have no feelings for it."
As he spoke, he casually glanced around the room, tapping his fingers on the table, showing none of the lingering affection he had shown before.
