Chapter 39 Breath
Chapter 39 Breath
It was eight o'clock sharp, and the coughing from the landlord's room stopped as time went on. The entire room was pitch black and completely silent.
Wu Yu didn't notice anything amiss. He had just arrived at his destination when he saw all the players standing at the top of the stairs, waiting.
As time passed, the entire residential building seemed to come alive again and began to liven up.
Just like yesterday, every room was brightly lit, and everyone was doing their own thing.
However, unlike the players, these people seemed not to see them at all; they passed right through the players' bodies like phantoms.
Jiang Qi naturally noticed this, as this scene recreation did not actively provide them with any clues related to the dungeon.
Instead, players need to trigger story points on their own, and clever players have already started moving around within the illusionary realm.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi decided to go to room 205 on the second floor again, since they were sure to find some clues in the room in the illusion.
Jiang Qi and his companion were cautious enough that their actions went unnoticed by anyone.
When Jiang Qi arrived at the door of room 205, he found that the brazier and offerings in front of the door had disappeared.
The room was lit with warm yellow light, and a woman could be seen busily working in it.
This must be the bride who got married, and also the mother of two children.
Jiang Qi knocked three times on the door with his fingers, then stood quietly at the door with Lu Zhi and waited.
A childish voice came from inside, "They're here!!"
The voice was all too familiar to Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi; it belonged to the little girl in the wheelchair.
The door opened, and a short figure peered warily at Jiang Qi and his companion from behind it, while a pair of large eyes looked timidly at them from behind her.
The little girl who introduced herself as Qiqi opened the door. Jiang Qi greeted them in a friendly manner, while Lu Zhi beside him still looked indifferent, but at least he didn't frighten the two little girls.
"Mom, there are two strange older brothers outside the door!" Qiqi turned around and shouted into the room.
A gentle voice came from deep within, "Those who come are guests, let them in. Kiki."
"Hmph, come in." With that, the older sister let go of Qiqi's hand first and then pulled her towards their mother.
Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi entered the room without incident, while the woman was still busy in the kitchen.
The two little girls sat obediently in their seats doing their homework or drawing, while Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi seemed like good residents visiting their neighbors for the first time.
Jiang Qi seemed a little flustered, while Lu Zhi remained calm and composed without putting on any pretense.
The woman soon came out of the kitchen, wiping her apron apologetically. "Excuse me, please have a seat. What brings you here today?"
As if performing magic, Jiang Qi pulled out a gift bag from behind his back, inside which were some everyday items and dolls that children like.
"These are gifts we brought for our visit. We apologize for the intrusion, as we came without prior notice."
The woman accepted the gift with surprise, and then tried to persuade Jiang Qi and his companion to stay for dinner before leaving.
Jiang Qi was quite pleased with how things were developing, which saved him the trouble of saying any more polite words.
Seeing Jiang Qi's composed demeanor, Lu Zhi began to play along.
The woman couldn't see anything wrong with the two of them at all; she just treated them as guests at her home.
After waiting for Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi to sit down, the woman returned to the kitchen and reminded the two sisters to behave.
The older sister pouted her little mouth and her fair little hands scribbled and drew on the white paper.
Meanwhile, the younger sister was diligently doing her schoolwork, swinging her legs, and occasionally glancing up at the two unfamiliar older brothers.
Jiang Qi looked around and noticed several photos displayed on a cabinet in the distance.
One of the photos shows a little girl dancing. In the photo, the little girl dances gracefully like a white swan, with a happy smile on her face.
The remaining photos are all of the two sisters together; there are very few photos of their mother in comparison.
A large family photo hangs on the wall, with everyone smiling happily.
While Jiang Qi was observing the layout of the room, Lu Zhi was observing the two sisters.
He could see the painting his sister was drawing, and he also noticed the name on her sketchbook—Qiqi.
Judging from their appearance, it was impossible to tell who was the older sister and who was the younger sister, but Lu Zhi was not human; he was a monster.
He could distinguish the two sisters in another way; their auras were completely different.
Lu Zhi's gaze was not to be ignored. Qi Qi seemed to sense it and looked up, just in time to meet Lu Zhi's eyes.
She smelled the scent of her own kind, which surprised Qiqi.
Moreover, this monster's strength was overwhelming for her, which puzzled Qiqi.
She clearly didn't smell anything from this person this morning; it seems she was fooled by his human scent.
Hmph, then tonight's pranks won't be fun.
Thinking this to herself, Qiqi stuck out her tongue, erased her original drawing, and started painting again.
She wasn't afraid at all, but the fact that this human had such a powerful and uncontrollable monster hiding beside him suggested that this human was no ordinary person either.
