Chapter 359: Falling Into Trap (II)
Ruan Chanchan nodded. "I believe you."
Although Rong Xian was not the leader of this tribe at the moment, it could be seen that he would be the one who would take on the position of the leader in a few years. Since that was the case, she could always trust him.
"Your Highness," a small mer walked over to where Rong Xian was standing and then said to him, "The queen has asked you to go and bring some of the aged brew for the guests from the storehouse of the royal residence."
Because Rong Xian was paying attention to Ruan Chanchan, he did not pay attention to the nervous expression of the mer. If he had taken a look, then he would have seen that there was something wrong with the scout mer, who had come to see him.
Rong Xian frowned hard when he heard the words of the mer. He turned to look at his mother, who, as if sensing that he was looking at her, then raised the wooden vessel that she was holding in her hands in the air. Seeing her like this, Rong Xian did not know what was going on. He pursed his lips and then turned to look at Ruan Chanchan before saying to her, "I apologise for this interruption."
"There is no need for you to apologise." Though Ruan Chanchan was a bit confused as to why the mer asked the prince to bring the aged brew, she thought that it was because no one was allowed to enter the royal residence of the queen and the prince; maybe that was the reason why these mers were not going to the residence of the queen? Who was Ruan Chanchan to know about these small things?
The prince nodded with a smile before walking to the cave. The scout followed him nervously, but when the two of them were less than ten steps away from the cave, the scout mer paused in his stride and clutched his stomach. He said to Rong Xian, "Your highness, my stomach hurts a little. I will go there and pull. You can bring the aged brew out of the cave and leave it outside the cave. I will bring it to the square of the tribe’s territory."
Rong Xian frowned when he heard the words of the mer. He turned to look at the scout mer with a slight furrow between his brows as if he were worried about something. However, the mer’s expression was indeed looking a bit pained. He nodded and said to the mer, "Fine, if you are in pain, then you can go. Make sure to deliver the aged brew once you are done with your ...stuff."
The scout mer nodded and then, with an expression of someone who had received freedom, turned around and ran away. The mer looked like he was being chased by something, which only made Rong Xian even more suspicious. However, when he did a quick survey of the surroundings, he did not see anything. It did not seem like anyone wanted to attack him.
Rong Xian lowered his guard and then walked toward his residence once again, but this time, just as he took a few steps toward the cave, he felt something coming toward him with a swoosh. He turned around and swiped his hand at the thing that was aimed at him. He thought that someone had hurled something at him, but unfortunately, even if he was half correct, he was half wrong. Someone did throw something at him, but it was not to attack him.
He looked at the golden-greenish pollen that was scattered all over his body, and his eyes turned red with rage. "You!"
He glared at the scout mer who had lied to him just now by saying that he was actually going to pull, but he was waiting for him to drop his guard. He should have known that there was something wrong when this scout told him that his mother had asked for the aged brew. His mother had her own aide; why would she need him to go and get it? It was all because he was not paying attention that things became like this.
Rong Xian was filled with regret, but unfortunately, it was too late for him to regret it. He knew that the fruit that the scout mer was called ’mating fruit’. It had one simple use. Whoever inhaled the pollen of this fruit would end up getting their heat cycle before they could think of a countermeasure. Since the mer dared to do this, he must have an accomplice and she or he must be hiding somewhere. God damn it! The last time someone dared to do this to him, he had killed the person slowly and gradually. He tortured the person to the point that no one in the tribe dared to do it again. Who would have thought that after just a few years had passed by, someone would gain the courage to take this bold step again!?
"I am sorry, your highness, but my mother is in their hands. I also had no choice!" The scout mer knew that what he did was going to get him killed, but he couldn’t turn a blind eye to his mother, who was caught by those who threatened him. He knew that the only way he could get out of this situation was by following the orders of that woman. He dared not even think about going against her.
He bowed in front of Rong Xian and turned around on his feet before running away. He was worried that if he were a step too late, he would end up witnessing something that might ruin him for good.
Rong Xian watched the mer leave and suddenly felt helpless. He could feel the strength leaving his body as he could feel his body turning hot with each passing second. This won’t do; if he did not escape from here, then he was worried that he might end up getting caught in some rather messy trouble.
