Chapter 468 - 468: The Tian Clan: Part Two
Chapter 468 - 468: The Tian Clan: Part Two
Tian Wu rubbed the back of his head. He had a strange, carefree tone to him as he lowered his head slightly, apologizing profusely for what had happened and forgetting about the meeting. Glancing at his demeanor, Fang Yuan had the impression that this man may have genuinely forgotten about the time and place they were supposed to meet, and this was not something done on purpose for some other strange maneuvering reason. The Gu Immortal behind him chimed in, "Greetings, brother. My name is Tian Shan. I apologize for my cousin's behavior. He tends to be a bit airheaded and gets lost in his head when it comes to training with his sword. I trust that your journey here was well."
Feng Yuan had thought that the two of them were related given how similar their features were. So, they were indeed cousins. He filed this bit of information away as he slowly lowered his head and cupped his hands, saying, "Greetings, brethren from the Tian Clan. My name is Fang Yuan. I'm from the Southern Border, and I came here for a meeting with the Tian clan. Do not worry about the lateness. I was simply admiring this massive pile of Blue Beetle Sand as it was. You have quite the elegant and beautiful resource point."
"Yes, yes," Tian Wu said, relaxing a little now that Feng Yuan had said it was no big deal and was not angry.
"Come, let us enjoy some tea together," Feng Yuan said. Although he didn't have any of the Shang clan's high-ranking recipes, he had received certain leftover materials from Shang Guai Li while making tea for him. Not to mention he had his own Emotion Path methods - he could brew up a mean cup of tea on the spot.
"Why, certainly," Tian Wu and Tian Shan said.
"If you don't mind me asking, what kind of a killer move were you practicing?" Feng Yuan asked as they sat above the mound of Blue Beetle Sand, sipping on tea.
"It was a Sword Path killer move. It was just an idea that I happened to have," Tian Wu said.
"A Sword Path cultivator," Fang Yuan noted. "interesting..."
"Brother, what kind of cultivator are you?" Tian Wu asked. His manner of asking was rather eager, and Fang Yuan also had to note that it was borderline childlike. He was a bit put off by Tian Wu's mannerisms because it was, quite frankly, not one that you would expect from a high-ranking immortal. Rather, it seemed almost like an arrogant young master who had yet to see the vicissitudes of the world.
'Is his father the Tian clan's supreme elder, or perhaps someone else who is important within the clan? It seems like he has been babied for a good portion of his life,' Fang Yuan thought. Although Gu Immortals had to run around looking for resources, naturally those who were the offspring of Rank 8 immortals or very important people did not really have to worry about that. It could explain why this person appeared to be so carefree. Either that, or he had been quite sheltered by the Tian Clan and had only recently become a Gu Immortal.
"Brother Fang Yuan," Tian Wu said excitedly, "did you know that a sword can cut things because it is sharp?" He said this as if he had spoken some words of deep and profound wisdom.
Feng Yuan gave him a blank look while Tian Shan shook his head. "Please don't mind him, brother. He can oftentimes think of nothing else other than his sword and how to play with it all day long."
"Well, if you must know," Fang Yuan said, "I am an Emotion Path cultivator."
"Emotion path, huh?" Tian Wu said, suddenly becoming far more excited as inspiration flashed through his eyes. "Brother Feng Yuan, the Emotion Path is a branch of the Wisdom Path, is it not?"
Feng Yuan nodded.
"Is it possible then that you can actually help me with my killer move in question?" Tian Wu asked, before Tian Shan lightly tapped him on the back of his head.
"Our guest has just arrived. Don't go ahead and try roping him into your strange schemes," Tian Shan said. "I apologize for my cousin's behavior." Tian Shan seemed to be the slightly older of the two, as well as the more responsible one. It didn't seem to be the first time that he had to correct his younger cousin regarding things.
"You won't even let me finish before you start scolding me," Tian Wu said, frowning. "There's a reason why I brought it up. Brother Fang Yuan, like I said, a sword can cut things because it is sharp. But dose a sword only have to cut physical things? Don't people say that one's thoughts are also sharp, or that one's mind is sharp as well? I was trying to create a Sword Path killer move which could mimic the effect of thinking."
Fang Yuan paused as he thought about it. "So, a sword path killer move which would mimic the effect of a Wisdom Path gu worm or killer move? Is that what you were working on?"
"Yes," Tian Wu said. Tian Wu offered the information a bit too willingly. Most people would not share the details of their killer moves for obvious reasons, but once again, Tian Wu seemed to be far more naive and willing to trust Fang Yuan than a normal Gu Immortal would be.
"If I were to see the killer move in question, perhaps I could make a comment on it," Fang Yuan said.
That seemed to greatly delight Tian Wu, who smiled. "Truly, there is not better way to spend one's time than stroking one's sword and contemplating the dao! Even better if it's done with friends!"
"I have to say, though, I am a bit surprised that you would choose Sword Cultivation," Fang Yuan said. "If I heard correctly, the Tian clan is famous for its wood as well as earth path cultivators, is it not?"
"Indeed, you're right," Tian Shan said. "For that matter, I am an Earth Path cultivator as well. But little Wu here has always admired the sword."
"Of course I admire the sword," Tian Wu said. "The sword is the king of all weapons."
Tian Shan sighed at the interruption. "As you can see, he is a bit obsessed with it. Pay him no mind. Brother Fang Yuan, thank you for the drink. And if I may say so, this tea is excellent. I have rarely, if ever, tasted something like this before in my life. It is refreshing to the mind, giving immediate clarity to one's thoughts, as well as going down the throat easily." Tian Shan said. This praise was not just empty flattery; he had to admit that Feng Yuan's tea was indeed quite good. "Is this some kind of recipe unique to the Southern Border?"
"Not entirely," Feng Yuan said. "It's an Emotion Path recipe with the profundities of the emotion path, which is why it is so easy to clear one's mind after drinking it. One's heart will also naturally feel steady after consuming it. Of course, I have had help from the Shang Clan elders in making this kind of tea."
"I see. So, Fang Yuan, are you a lone cultivator or an external elder of the Shang clan?" Tian Shan asked. It was asked in a rather casual manner, like one would to another friend. However, there was a deeper meaning behind this; Tian Shan wanted to know just how close Feng Yuan was with the Shang clan and what his standing was.
Feng Yuan did not miss out on this, answering, "Oh, I am a lone cultivator. I simply volunteered for this mission."
"Oh, you volunteered?" Tian Wu asked. "What made you want to come over to the Western Desert?" Tian Wu, unlike Tian Shan, seemed to be asking that out of genuine curiosity rather than with an ulterior motive in mind.
"There were certain Emotion Path materials that I wanted to look out for, which I thought I'd be able to find easily within the wilderness of the desert," Fang Yuan said. "I thought I would either transact directly with you or perhaps look at certain other spots where I could find them."
"Oh, I see," Tian Wu said.
